Mark your calendars for June 12, 2025 – a unique joint conference is bringing together the capital region’s engineering and construction community. The 2025 June Joint Conference, co-hosted by the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) DC Post, the American Council of Engineering Companies of Metropolitan Washington (ACEC MW), and the Construction Management Association of America National Capital Chapter (CMAA NCC), will take place from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. This full-day event promises robust industry-government engagement on “Major Construction Programs: Trends, Opportunities and Strategies,” featuring speakers from the U.S. Air Force, Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA), Virginia Tech and more. Notably, after selling out in the past three years, the organizers have moved this year’s conference to the larger National Press Club venue to accommodate growing demand.

About the Organizers
This June Joint Conference is a collaboration between three leading professional associations, each bringing a unique perspective to the event:
- Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) – DC Post: SAME is a century-old organization that unites public and private sector professionals from across the architecture, engineering, and construction fields in support of national security. The DC Post is one of SAME’s local chapters, fostering collaboration among military engineers, government agencies, and industry partners in the Washington, DC area.
- American Council of Engineering Companies of Metropolitan Washington (ACEC MW): Founded in 1958, ACEC MW represents the business interests of over 100 consulting engineering firms (with 5,200+ employees) in Washington, DC, suburban Maryland, and Northern Virginia. It is the regional chapter of the national ACEC, serving as the voice of the engineering community by advocating, educating, and providing networking opportunities for member companies.
- Construction Management Association of America – National Capital Chapter (CMAA NCC): CMAA is the national professional association dedicated to the practice of construction management. Its mission is to promote the construction management profession and the use of qualified construction managers on capital projects and programs. The National Capital Chapter (NCC) serves construction management professionals in the DC/Maryland/Virginia region, connecting them with industry firms and public agencies to advance best practices in project delivery.
Together, these organizations have a track record of hosting joint events that bridge government and industry, providing a forum for learning and partnership in the A/E/C (architecture, engineering, and construction) sector.

Program Highlights and Key Topics
The conference’s theme – “Major Construction Programs: Trends, Opportunities and Strategies” – sets the stage for in-depth discussions on large-scale projects and industry best practices. Attendees can expect insights into major construction initiatives across both the public and private sectors, as the agenda features a mix of federal, local, and industry perspectives.
Morning sessions will kick off with high-profile speakers from government agencies. The U.S. Air Force’s Deputy Director of Civil Engineers, Mr. Thomas Brown, is slated to deliver a keynote address, offering perspective on upcoming defense infrastructure initiatives. Following the keynote, representatives of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority – including Chief Capital Development Officer Roger Natsuhara and VP of Engineering Andrew Hascall – will lead a late-morning session about major capital projects at Washington-area airports. These talks will highlight current and future opportunities in military construction and transportation infrastructure, giving attendees an inside look at programs driving regional development.
Mid-day and afternoon sessions continue the momentum. During the luncheon, attendees will hear updates from SAME’s national leadership (with society announcements) and a briefing from ACEC National on the latest legislative initiatives affecting the engineering and construction industry. Bradley Saull, ACEC’s Vice President of Federal & International Programs, will discuss how evolving policies and funding strategies are impacting AEC firms and projects. Rounding out the day, Virginia Tech’s Vice President for Facilities, Mr. Dwyn Taylor, will present an afternoon session focusing on the university’s major construction programs. This academic viewpoint will shed light on innovations in campus development and how a major research institution plans and executes large projects. From defense and transportation to education infrastructure, the conference agenda covers a broad spectrum of key construction domains – all tied together by an emphasis on emerging trends, partnership strategies, and upcoming opportunities.
